Drainage Solution

All right, so we’re out here on the drainage call. I was called out because water was coming down this hill and it was flooding the yard and it didn’t really have a great way to escape.

Building a Moat

We lucked out here. We have all this water running in this direction and towards the street. So essentially what we’ve done is we’ve built a moat around this woman’s property.

Water can’t come down this hill and cross my moat and get to the house without falling into my dry creek bed and running either to the street or in the side yard down here.

Now we’ve done a few things to help kind of beautify this dry creek bed.  The dry creek bed actually runs straight. But we’ve added these jogs throughout.

We put the rock in a curvature fashion to make it look like it has some curve.

We also put a berm up and we put some plantings in to really hide the stream. This made it look more natural and less utilitarian. It actually enhanced the backyard.

This drainage solution was installed in St. Louis, in the 63146 neighborhood.
