Katie is the Office Manager at Big Bend Landscaping. Hers is the first voice you will hear when you call for an appointment.
Katie balances many tasks with ease. Once the project is set, customers meet Katie to pick out their materials. She is also the recipient of payments for each project. In addition, she spends much of each day fielding general questions from the public.
Katie is the wheel that keeps the team moving forward in tandem. She has worked in the industry – both in material sales and office management – for more than a decade and came to Big Bend Landscaping a year ago.
Recently, we asked Katie to do a brief interview for our blog. We think you will enjoy her insights into the landscaping industry.
Katie, tell us a little about the team you work with.
Joe is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He is always willing to jump in to help with anything that is needed. Joe’s attention to detail is amazing! He has never met a drainage problem too challenging or a retaining wall too complicated. Joe is a gifted designer, with an uncanny ability to translate a customer’s vision onto paper. Our customers love him for his ability to bring their vision to life.
Can you give potential customers a bit of advice on what to know before they contact you for the first time?
Of course! Come to us with ideas for your project – or without. It really does not matter. Some clients have pictures of what they would like to accomplish on their property. Others just know they want something but cannot envision it. We can help you every step of the way. Having a budget in mind is also helpful, but remember that landscaping can get expensive, so be prepared to be flexible.
Do you see any emerging trends in landscaping?
Outdoor kitchens are really in demand. Since the pandemic, people are home more, and they want to extend their living space to the outdoors. Firepits are also popular and they come in all shapes, sizes, and materials. Every property is unique, and we’ve created some really beautiful outdoor living spaces. I see that trend only increasing.
Tell us a little about your process.
We have five crews at Big Bend Landscaping, each with a different specialty. One addresses drainage, another larger retaining walls. One does concrete. One specializes in patios, and another creates custom outdoor kitchens. Our company is busy! And our crews are amazing, the hardest working guys I know. Our customers are always amazed how they clean up after themselves when the job is finished. I am really proud of the work we do as a team, from start to finish.
